Albaidass Castle
Over the skirts of the mountain range of Córdoba lies this unique scenery over viewing the city, ideal for intimate or multitudinous celebrations.
An elegant restoration has joined the respect for the history and the incorporation of comfortable elements and vanguardist quality.
Exclusive private dining halls, wide rooms delightfully decorated where one can enjoy the best views of Córdoba, multi use room, more than one thousand parking places and beautiful gardens, being the ideal scenery for any social or business event, weddings or family celebrations.
The excellent gastronomy and history of Córdoba are offered in the incomparable restaurant of the Castle La Albaida.
Stone canvases forming the fortified building, the weapons square, fortified stone walls as well as the rest of the castle have all been recovered. Inside one can enjoy the factories of blocks of stones and bricks of medieval times.
Luckily the rests of the Homage Tower have been localized and recovered following the modules of the Arabic tradition.
In general it has been attempted to respect the oldest buildings, as well as the most valuable different architecture interventions performed throughout times, such as the door done by Félix Hernánadez in 1919 for the dukes of Hornachuelos, the printed stone and the wooden truss for the oil mill of the XIX century, the rests of the small baroque chapel at the entrance of the property or the domed stables situated in the south of the building with 2 meter walls lying on top of live rock.
After the conquering of Córdoba in 1236 by Fernando III the Saint, the grassland of Albaida is converted into a property, and becomes part of the real possessions in Córdoba. In 1238, Fernando III donates it to Lord Juan de Funes, royal cavalier of the king of Castilla. In this documentation the existence of a small castle composed of a tower and various adjacent buildings is stated.
In 1365 the marriage of Lord Pedro González de Hoces and Lady Leonor Sánchez de Funes links the Lord of the Albaida with the Hoces family. The son of this marriage, Pedro González de Hoces, creates in 1454 the Majorat of the Abaida.
In the XVII century the marriage of the eighth Lord of the Albaida with Mª Magdalena de Hoces, second Lady of Hornachuelos, unifies the honor title of Albaida and the County of Hornachuelos.
With the Constitution of 1837 the jurisdiction of the Noble land of La Albaida passes to the State. The grassland remains as a private property of the Dukes of Hornachuelos. The honor title of Lord of La Albaida, as well as the other noble and Lord Titles were considered purely nominal.
In 1919 Lady María de la Paz Olalla y Casasola, noble widow of Hornachuelos performed a restoration of the Castle of La Albaida, giving it the aspect of a noble recreational place that until today conserves.
Over viewing the city lays the Restaurant Castillo de la Albaida situated on the skirts of mountain range Morena with beautiful views of Córdoba.
This old Arabic fort from the VIII century has persisted over times, harboring among its walls high noble medieval families, among which we can highlight the Families of Funes and Hoces.
After an extraordinary restoration always respecting the history, the oldest buildings and the most valuable architectural interventions done over times have been recovered combining them with the incorporation of a touch of vanguardism and comfortable elements.
Due to its close situation to the city centre, only 3 Km away, and at the same time on the outskirts, in a few minutes and without any problem for parking, you will be able to escape from the world’s noise to feel the peace of the mountain range, the singing of the birds and the purity of the air while enjoying a walk outside around the Castle.
If you make a brief stop in the first square acceding to the Castle of La Albaida, you will feel a sensation of indecision as it is difficult to decide whether to look North, where we find beautiful views of the mountain range of Córdoba; or South, where the city of Córdoba finds a place in the Valley of Guadalquivir by the riverside of the millenniums river with the same name.
If you go ahead you will reach the old Baroque Chapel, today turned into a modern and multifunctional hall with a maximum capacity for cocktail service of 230 people.
A few meters ahead, going under the door made in 1959 for the Dukes of Hornachuelos, you will enter the Square of weapons, from which the reconstructed Homage Tower, the Mill’s tower and, of course the mountain range of Córdoba can all be seen.
Entering the building, in front of the entry door you will accede to the Restaurant Qurtuba, where you will be able to taste the best gastronomy from the region of Córdoba with innovate touches of author; while you will be able to enjoy through the windows the incomparable views that includes all the Guadalquivir Valley and the city of Philosophers, Writers, Painters and Bull fighters.
On the same floor of the Restaurant Qurtuba, you will be able to visit two large halls with a capacity of 250 people each for banquet occasions; where you will be able to celebrate any kind of event, meeting or congress. One of them, the hall of the Homage Tower, of modern style, has large windows all around the room; as well as a big terrace, useful for the performance of cocktails or welcome drinks outside. The other hall is more rustic, composed of the Mills Hall, old oil mill; and the Hall of Almazara, is probable one of the most beautiful corners that the Castle harbors due to the high ceilings decorated with ancient wood, stone walls, arcs and columns.
Going up the stairs of the Castle, we find the old bedrooms of the families that use to live in the fort, today converted in homely rooms with capacity between 12 and 26 persons for meetings or family and business meals. From all of them the beautiful scenery that surrounds the Castle of La Albaida can be contemplated.
The vanguardist and modern touch for the illumination of these halls stands out nicely surprising the visitor.
Following the walk, on the same floor, we find the highest and largest terrace of the property, which during the summer months is converted in the Barbeque Terrace where you will be able to taste the best fresh grilled meat and fish.
Going up some stairs we enter inside the Homage Tower, in the last room of the building, called the Hall of Ambassadors. The brave blue color of the walls, the arcs of Mozarbic style and the mosaic floor make this hall one of the most original corners of the Castle.
